What is a domain name?
A domain name is your website address
such as www.your-name.com or www.your-name.net.
Domain names can be purchased at various online
companies called domain name registrars.
Can I use my existing
website address if I host with you?
Yes, you can easily retain your old
domain name by changing the DNS numbers that
point to the new host, which in this case
would be us.
The numbers are “ns22.routesys.com”
and “ns23.routesys.com”.
Paste these numbers into the nameserver fields
1 and 2 at your domain name registrar. This
is the company where your domain name is registered.
This will point your domain name to our server
(Your hosting package with us).
What is website hosting
and do I need it for my site?
Website hosting is required for having
a website online for the world to see. Think
of it as a house for your web pages. You can
host your website with us or any other hosting
providers that matches your needs.
Do I get e-mail with
my website hosting?
Yes we provide up to 5 email accounts
with our hosting package.
You can create and manage your email accounts
through the cpanel.
Can I see how many
visitors I've had to my website?
Yes, the cpanel
(included with hosting) shows graphical stats.
This shows you when people visited and from
where, what browsers they use and much more.
The cpanel also provides
other basic tools for making code to insert
into your website for counters, clocks, etc.
Who owns the website
once the website is hosted?
Your website always belongs to you.
It is suggested that you keep a secure backup
of your website files in the event that the
server ever crashes.
Our server does have redundant backups so
it is very rare that your data will ever be
lost, but be safe and keep another copy on
hand. We are not liable for lost data.
What is FTP?
FTP stands for "file transfer
protocol" and is a program used to connect
your computer to the host computer in order
to move files between them. This is the way
you upload your website to the host.
Ws_ftp
is one example of these programs used for
FTP.
